ATUN, 14 November 2016 (NNT) - Myanmar people gathered at a royal monastery, "Wat Chanathip Chaloem," in Satun province to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulayadej over the weekend.

More than 200 Myanmar nationals dressed in their traditional costumes gathered before the portrait of the late King which was drawn by a Myanmar artist, Zaw Kiang. The artist drew the picture of His Majesty from the cover of a calendar.

The ceremony began with them presenting monk robes to the abbot of Wat Chanathip Chaloem, Phra Kru Wimon Dhammaros. Among the attendees were local government officials from the provincial offices of Culture and Public Relations Department as well as the general public.

The leader of Myanmar workers in Satun, Kian Mong Win, said he and other Myanmar nationals were saddened by the passing of His Majesty who gave them the opportunity to come and work in the Kingdom of Thailand.

He also said that their gathering to perform a religious ceremony was the only way for them to express their appreciation for the late King’s kindness. Thongchai San-aksorn, an official from the Cultural Office of Satun, praised their respect for Thailand’s late King.

He said it was an opportunity for both nations to strengthen their ties as both countries have profound love and respect for His Majesty. Thongchai further stated that Satun province would allow Myanmar citizens to take part in Buddhist ceremonies in the future.
