Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, has joined Thai citizens in Sunday’s poll. He said he believes the referendum will determine the country’s future.
Gen Prayut cast his vote in Sam Sen Nai district on Sunday amid tight security. He greeted reporters as he made his way to the polling booth. The prime minister was seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt.
He said the holding of the referendum shows that Thailand is on its way back to democracy, adding that Sunday’s poll will decide the country’s future.
The prime minister said he hoped that voter turnout is higher than the past.
He also offered congratulations to the Thai weightlifter, Sopita Tanasan, for clinching Thailand's first gold medal of the Rio Olympics and offered his moral support to other athletes taking part in the Rio Games.
