BANGKOK, 30 November 2016 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has acknowledged the selection of a Royal Heir to the role of Thailand’s monarch.
At a special meeting yesterday, the NLA considered Article 2 of the Interim Constitution of 2014 and Article 23 of the 2007 Constitution as part of proceedings to acknowledge the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Thailand.
NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai announced to the assembly that the Prime Minister had earlier issued an urgent memo based on an announcement from the Bureau of the Royal Household citing the 1924 rule of succession appointing His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn as the successor to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The premier’s memo requested the NLA acknowledge the announcement and commence the process for the coronation of His Royal Highness.
The NLA President concluded the meeting by having members of the assembly stand in tribute to the Kingdom’s forthcoming monarch and join in proclaiming “Long Live the King”.
