Min of Foreign Affairs responds to news of US condemnation over Kingdom's use of laws
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sought to clarify the United States’ reaction to Thailand’s recent arrests made under Criminal Article 112 after finding some foreign news outlets misreporting the issue.
After thoroughly reviewing the US’s stance on Thailand’s use of Article 112 and its Computer Crimes Act, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated three points.
First, it has affirmed that the US State Department has not released an official statement on the matter. Second, it has clarified that some reported comments were only answers to questions by State Department East Asian office agents and were not made by the office’s spokesperson as well as that the term “condemn” was not used in the answers as reported. Third, it pointed out that the Thai government respects international human rights and values all freedoms and that its actions are based on maintaining stability and unity in the Kingdom during this time of reform.
