The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge has seen a bump in guided tours brought on by the long weekend holiday, necessitating more border agents be readied.

Large crowds of travelers were observed on the first day of the long weekend at the Thai-Lao Friendship bridge in Nong Khai province. Thai, Chinese, Taiwanese and Vietnamese travelers made up the majority of the crowd, traveling to the bridge to make their way to Lao PDR. Most of the travelers were making their way on group tours.

While the large amount of people caused long lines to form at the border checkpoint, the atmosphere was noted as positive.

The throngs of travelers required that Nong Khai’s immigration office open all of its service counters and even convert its automobile processing counter to handle individual travelers to alleviate congestion.
