Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn celebrated her 61st birthday on April 2, 2016.
At Wasukri Pier, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn released small fish numbering 590,000 which were presented to her by the Fisheries Department. On this occasion, Director-General of the Fisheries Department Wimon Chantararothai led a group of officials to offer to Her Royal Highness their best wishes on her birthday.
The fish released back to nature on the day comprised nine spicies including silver barb, red-tailed tinfoil barb, red cheek barb, Siamese mud carp, common climbing perch, seven-striped barb, clown knifefish, archer fish and Mekong giant catfish. Apart from the fry, two stingrays were also released for natural propagation.
Her Royal Highness then visited an exhibition on the conservation and breeding of the Chao Phraya ray in the wild, a project in honor of the Princess Maha Chakri. The exhibition featured seven species of freshwater rays found in Thailand, particularly the Chao Phraya ray and the provinces where the fish can be found. Her Royal Highness also drew a picture of stingray which will be later printed on shirts for sale to raise fund for the Theppharattanavejjanukul Foundation.
