YASOTHON, 14th May 2017 (NNT) – Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival is now underway in the northeastern province of Yasothon.

The festival on Saturday fired up with a traditional parade and cultural performances. The opening ceremony was chaired by Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul.

Taking place in the capital district, the festival also features a rocket competition. The highest traveling rocket will win King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun’s trophy.

Apart from the contest, visitors can also enjoy street theater, performances of folklore bands, and a beauty contest.

Offering an unforgettable experience, the festival is the noisiest time of the year in Yasothon. Homemade rockets are launched as a gesture to the holy spirits ahead of the rainy season.
