เมื่อวันที่ 7 พฤษภาคม 2559 นางสาวพรพิมล สุคันธวณิช รองกงสุลใหญ่ รักษาราชการแทนกงสุลใหญ่ฯ ได้เดินทางไปเมืองกาญจีปุรัม ร่วมกับคณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยมัทราสและสมาคมพุทธศาสนิกชนในรัฐทมิฬนาฑู

รองกงสุลใหญ่ รักษาราชการแทนกงสุลใหญ่ ได้เดินทางไปสำรวจสถานที่ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับพระพุทธศาสนาที่เมืองกาญจีปุรัม ได้แก่ ที่ตั้งพระพุทธรูปโบราณที่โรงเรียน Govt. C.M. Subbaraya Mudaliyar Higher Secondary School สถานที่ตั้งพระพุทธรูปโบราณที่สถานีตำรวจ Sivakanchi สถานที่เก็บรักษาพระพุทธรูปโบราณและสถานที่ปฏิบัติธรรม The Arulmigu Buddar Alayam ซึ่งสร้างโดยพระนักศึกษาไทย

ทั้งนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ฯ มีโครงการจะร่วมกับมหาวิทยาลัยมัทราสและสมาคมพุทธศาสนิกชนอินเดียซ่อมแซมสถานที่ทางพุทธศาสนาและจัดทำป้ายข้อมูลและข้อมูลพุทธสถานโบราณ เพื่อให้ความรู้แก่ประชาชนถึงความสำคัญของพุทธสถานและพระพุทธรูปโบราณ ซึ่งมีความเก่าแก่มากกว่า 2,000 ปี

On 7 May 2016, Ms. Pornpimol Sugandhavanija, Deputy Consul-General, and Acting Consul-General, altogether with representatives from Madras University and Buddhism Associations in Tamil Nadu visited Kanchipuram City.

The group has surveyed several places linked to the history of Buddhism  such as the Govt. C.M. Subbaraya Mudaliya Higher Secondary School, the Police Station Sivakanchi, and The Arulmigu Buddar Alayam, built by Thai student monks, where ancient granite Buddha sculptures are located.

The visit is relevant to the project that the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Chennai would like to work with the University of Madras and Buddhism Associations in Tamil Nadu. It aims to renovate the Buddhism-related locations and ancient Buddha statutes as well as to make the inscription providing the notes on the history and significance of the Buddhism-related locations and the Buddha statues with the age of more than 2,000 years old.
