Physical  Infrastructure

Road: US$ 500 million World Bank Funded project to upgrade road infrastructure and US$ 23 billion for improvement of highways (Vision 2023)

Rail: Mass-Rapid-Transit System (MRTS) in Chennai (25 km) under construction and US$ 27.5 billion key rail project (Vision 2023)

Airport: International Airport – Chennai (12.8 million passenger), Coimbatore, and Trichy and US$ 5.2 billion for developing a Greenfield airport near Chennai and upgrading other airports

Port: three major ports – Chennai (handles container cargo), Ennore  and V O Chaiambaranar (handles coal, ores and other bulk minerals)

 

Installed Power Capacity (MW)

       From total Installed power generation capacity, 9,914 MW was contributed by thermal power and renewable power contributed 7,491.2 MW. Hydropower and nuclear power contributed 2,182.2 MW and 524 MW of capacity.

 

Tamil Nadu Vision 2023 envisages an investment of US$ 39.6 billion to expand generation capacity by 30,000 MW.
