On 11 January 2016 Ms. Pornpimol Sugandhavanija, Deputy Consul-General and Acting Consul-General in Chennai presented Thai dolls 3 sets of Bangkok dolls to Dr. D. Jagannathan, Director of Museums, Chennai Museum, to be exhibited in the Children Museum’s costume collections.
The Bangkok doll is a Thai traditional doll manufacturer which was established in 1957 by Khunying Thongkorn Chanthawimol who was a renowned doll maker in Thailand.
One set of the doll highlights the characters in the Khon dance drama based on the Ramakien which depict the forces of good and the forces of evil. Another two dolls are displaying the Thai National costume.
The display of the Thai hand made doll collections will be the token of the enhancement of Thailand and India relations and will display the aspects of Thailand’s culture and way of life to the museum visitors
