During 14-16 April 2015, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in collboration with Team Thailand authorities namely Thai Trade Center, Thai Airways International Chennai Office, and Kohinoor Asiana Hotel organized Songkran Festival (Thai Traditional New Year) at The Silk, Thai restaurant.

The said activity, which was funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of  Thailand and the two Team Thailand authorities, aimed to promote Thailand tourism and Thai culture among Indian people in the Southern part as well as to support the Thai restaurant in Chennai.

In the festival, there were peroformances of thai northern traditional dance and demonstration of umbrella painting by the Thai artist from Chiang Mai province, Ms. Sakawkawin Kanjanasema, and buffet line of Thai food at the Silk restaurant.

The participants,mostly foreign expats and tourists as well as Indian in Tamil Nadu state and in other neighboring states, were impressed by the Thai cultural show and Thai food cooked by chefs of the Kohinoor Asiana Hotel.

The opening ceremony of the Festival was on 14 April 2015 and presided over by the Consul-General in Chennai, General Manager of Thai Airways International and executives of Kohinoor Asiana Hotel.
